Hucknall Warriors 6 Warren 1

Match Type: League
Man of the Match: Macauley Spencer
Home or Away: Home

Hucknall Warriors got back to winning ways in the Empal with a convincing 6-1 victory over Warren in the second division. The opening ten minutes saw neither side create a clear cut chance as the game was played  mostly in midfield, however Warriors had started the strongest and were rewarded as they took the lead on thirteen minutes, Ryan Evans strike ricocheting off a Warren player and into the net.   Warriors played probably their best football of the season as they restricted chances for the opposition whilst creating openings for themselves and it wasn’t until the fortieth minute of the game that goal keeper Edward Ridley was seriously tested in the home goal. A goal bound strike brilliantly saved by Ridley on the line before being cleared to safety by a defender. a nervy last five minutes saw Warriors preserve their lead as Warren began to get a foot hold in the game. HT 1-0

Warriors were unlucky not to score a second soon after the restart when Ryan Gunns’ free  kick was saved by the goalkeeper at the expense of a corner however just two minutes into the second half Spencer superbly curled another corner directly into the far corner of the net to double the lead. Gunn almost added a third from a Tom Hall cross before Warren were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box. The spot kick was struck firmly low into the corner giving Ridley no chance of saving. Unlike previous games when Warriors heads would have dropped they responded almost immediately with a third goal, Spencers’ well placed shot into the goal off the inside of the post.  Further goals came as Charlie Goddard crossed the goal for Adam Whitemore to strike home and then Hall provided a pin point pass for Spencer with a bullet header to secure his hat trick. Ridley made another great stop with his feet at the near post to deny Warren a second goal before Warriors added a sixth and final goal  as Whitemore headed home from a Charlie Goddard corner. An excellent all round display with the back four and midfield excellent through out the game. FT 6-1
