Hucknall Warriors 3 Kimberley MW 1

Match Type: League
Man of the Match: Tyler Stafford
Home or Away: Home

Hucknall Warriors got the new season off to a flying start with a 3-1 victory over Kimberley MW in the EMPAL second division. An even opening twenty minutes saw both teams have spells of pressure without creating any clear cut chances. However it was Warriors that struck first, a corner from the left was headed across the face of goal by Zac Conway before Liam Burley headed in from short range. The lead was soon doubled, Macauley Spencer latching onto a long ball and coolly chipping the ball over the goal keeper and into the empty net.  Warriors were excellent in all areas of the pitch, playing some excellent passing football for long periods of the game.  Warriors goal keeper Edward Ridley made the first of several good saves as he punched the ball out to safety resulting in an end to end move that saw the Kimberley goalkeeper make another great save. HT 2-0

Twenty minutes into the second half and Kimberley were level after a spell of good pressure, Ridley making a good save but only able to parry the ball to the feet of the visiting striker Jerome Thompson who lashed the ball high into the net.  Warriors almost replied immediately, a free kick from the edge of the area being  saved low at the far post by the Kimberley goalkeeper. The resultant corner restored Warriors two goal cushion as Conways’ corner was headed in by Alex Featherstone. Kimberley almost reduced the deficit with a thunderous shot that hit the angle of crossbar and post but luckily for Warriors rebounded to safety.
