Edwalton FC 2 Hucknall Warriors 3

Match Type: League
Man of the Match: Ed Ridley
Home or Away: Away

Hucknall Warriors seniors came into the  game against league leaders Edwalton hoping to stop a run of defeats that had seen them squander two goal leads in the last two games.  Edwalton had the best of the possession in the opening fifteen minutes without creating any clear cut chances against a well disciplined Warriors back four of Adam Dyer, Ryan Evans, Neil Banks and Dean Clifford.  As the half progressed Warriors were able to get a foot hold in the game and were rewarded on the thirtieth minute as Macauley Spencers’ superb strike beat the Edwalton goal keeper at the far post to put the visitors 1-0 in front. This goal gave Warriors confidence as they took control of the latter stages of the first half, Alex Featherstone and Jeremy Moran winning the midfield battle. Warriors doubled their lead with just under forty minutes gone, an end to end move saw Zac Conway pass to Liam Burley on the right who slotted the ball across the goal and into the net.  Warriors added a vital third just before the half time whistle, Conway on the score sheet with a perfect half volley struck from outside the area. HT 0-3

Edwalton came out fighting second half and immediately put the Warriors goal under pressure and if it wasn’t for some superb saves from Edward Ridley in the Warriors goal it could have been 3-3 within the first five minutes of the half.  The first  a top draw save as he tipped the ball over the bar for a corner and the second a diving save from a long range attempt that both were goal bound. Two more top class saves from man of the match Ridley  preserved Warriors three goal cushion. Warriors survived the onslaught and could have added a fourth as persistence from Spencer gave him the opportunity to score his shot going the wrong side of the post.  An excellent Edwalton side continued to press and mid way through the second half pulled a goal back after a mix up in the Warriors defence. Just five minutes later they reduced the deficit to one goal with another short range attempt.  A nervy last fifteen minutes saw Warriors continue to deny Edwalton an equaliser with some resolute defending to earn all three points.
