Aslockton 1 Hucknall Warriors 2

In a break from the league schedule Warriors took to their first cup match of the season in a tricky away fixture against Aslockton. As the game begun it was Warriors who started on the front foot and after 2 minutes nearly took the lead when stand-in captain for the day, Joe Gillan, put in a great cross for Jack Bradley to hit first time just going wide.  With some good passing and team work the boys went close again when George Blatherwick received the ball on the edge of the box turned and laid it off to Jack Bradley who’s shot just went over the bar.

For all of the Warriors’ hard work and pressure it was Aslockton who took the lead after thirteen minutes when the ball feel to their striker who then went on a run beating two players and slotting the ball home. However, their joy was short lived as a minute later with Warriors pressing again a high ball fell down to Joe Gillan who made no mistake in hitting the back of the net.  Warriors finally got the lead they deserved after being awarded a throw which Jack threw to George’s feet who then slid the ball back down the line to Jack who got his cross in and waiting in the box was Joe Gillan to make it 2 -1 at half time.

Three minutes into the second half Aslockton nearly got the equaliser when they hit the post.  Although the boys did not create as many chances as in the first half, there was still a lot of hard work and good passing created.  The move of the second half was when Joe Gillan and George Blatherwick played a great 1 -2 laying the ball back into the path of Jack Bradley for him to smash the ball in to the cross bar. In the last few minutes it was all hands to the deck as Aslockton pushed for the late equaliser, but with good defending and determination the boys managed to hang on for a well deserved victory.

Carlton Town 2 Hucknall Warriors 1

Warriors came away with a defeat in a closely fought game against Carlton Town. In the first half  the boys gave their oponents a little too much respect  allowing them to mostly dominate the game  and after 8 minutes Carlton took the lead and managed to keep the lead into half time, with not a lot to show from the Warriors.

In the second half the boys showed a lot more grit and determination especially from captain and man of the match Conner Smith who got the Warriors back on level terms after ten minutes when he scored another long range free kick. However, whilst still celebrating in their minds, Carlton quickly regained the lead to make it 2 – 1. In the last two minutes Warriors thought that they had the equaliser when a close range shot by Jack Bradley hit the post and rebounded back to Jack who then shot again only for the ball to hit the post again and was quickly cleared by the Carlton defence.

All in all a draw would have been a fair result, but thats football!

After a disappointing performance last week it took Warriors just 15 seconds to put this behind them when a long ball by Conner Smith was chased down by George Blatherwick who hit the shot which came back off the keeper only for Joe Gillan to pounce and slot in the rebound from close range. After that it was all one way traffic from the Warriors, the second came when Joe Gillan did a great run down the wing crossing the ball for Owen Burke to slot home. Three minutes later it was Owen who received the ball on the edge of the box and with a bit of skill turned two players and got his shot away into the back of the net. The next goal came from our long throw specialist Regan who put the ball over the defenders heads with Conner Smith chasing down with just the goalie to beat and slotting it home making the score at half time 4 – 0. The second half was a lot tougher but through hard work and determination the Warriors managed to find the back of the net another two times, the first came from down the left when Jack Bradley did a great run crossing the ball for Joe Gillan who was in the right place to put the ball away.  The last goal of the game came from Joe Gillan who did all the hard work earning him his hat-trick and also man of the match.  This was not just for his three goals, but all his hard work and determination throughout the game. Also, the game could have been different if it wasn’t for our keeper David Hurry who pulled off some fantastic saves the best of the lot a one handed save in the top corner tipping round the post which made him a close contender for man of the match. This was a very pleasing performance by all of the boys and a good debut game from Josh Flowers.

Man of the match: None
Match Location: Away

The Warriors U9′s suffered their first league defeat of the season with a very under par performance by their standard.  With only 7 players and no subs the boys found it hard to get into the game. Ater 8 mins our goal keeper David Hurry was called in to action with a great save, but a couple of minutes later Wilford took the lead when they were awarded a penalty.  The penalty was saved, but Wilford were quicker to follow up and scored. With just a few chances for Warriors, Wilford managed to get their second just before half time.  In the second half  it was pretty much stale mate with either side not creating a lot of chances, the final score ending up Wilford 2, Warriors 0.

Match type: League
Man of the match: Conner Smith
Match Location: Home

The under 9′s kicked off the new 2010/11 season with a well deserved victory at home against Greenwood Meadows. After a nervous start and a closely fought game there was not a lot between the two sides, with the first half finishing goal-less. During the second half the boys got into their stride all looking much more comfortable on the ball with some good passing. The deadlock was broken by Jack Bradley who fired a shot in from out on the left, beating the goalie at the near post.  Next to get his name on the scoresheet was Joe Gillan with a great shot from outside the box. With a good team performance the game was finished off by our captain and man of the match Conner Smith with a long range free kick which he drilled in to the back of the net.  The second half was very pleasing as the boys all listened at half time to the team talk and took this on to the pitch with them. Also, it could have been a lot different if it was not for our keeper David Hurry who pulled off two tremendous saves, one in each half. Well done U9′s.
