A disappointing final Notts Youth league game of the season saw Hucknall Warriors U16 Reds slide to an unexpected defeat against Keyworth United Green. Warriors were never at the races in the first half and Keyworth were in front after only ten minutes as the ball was lashed into the net following early sustained pressure on the visitors goal. Ten minutes later the home side added a second as a cracking shot from the right wing left goal keeper Luke Cook with no chance and on thirty minutes Keyworth grabbed a third following poor defending. Despite the best efforts of hard working Regan Scott in midfield Warriors were unable to get a foothold in the game in the first half and were restricted to a couple of long range chances to score.

Warriors were all at sea at the beginning of the second half as they conceded a fourth goal as the Keyworth striker struck from just inside the area and it could have been worse but Cook pulled out another top drawer save to prevent a fifth. Forty six minutes on the clock and Warriors at last got a goal as Liam Burleys low driven corner was met by James Derry who made no mistake.Warriors had now woken up and started to apply pressure to the Keyworth goal and came close as Andreas Kokkinous’ shot was cleared only to fall to Scott whose header was cleared off the line. Warriors who had a penalty shout for hand ball in the first half turned down had another strong claim rejected mid way through the second half as they battled to claw their way back into the match. Warriors could have grabbed a further consolation goal from a multitude of excellent long throws and corners but despite coming agonisingly close could not close the deficit.

Despite this defeat Warriors remain top of the division two table with Netherfield Boys the only team that can topple them. Warriors may have an agonising two weeks to wait to see if they will be crowned champions.

League leaders Hucknall Warriors u16 Reds were in action against second place team East Valley Utd in the second division of the Notts Youth league. With everything to play for a depleted Warriors side had the majority of possession in a first half that created few clear cut chances as both defences held firm. Warriors came close with some excellent long throws and corners putting pressure on the home defence but it was ex Warriors player Tom Hall who came close to opening the scoring as his shot on twenty five minutes just dipped over the bar having beaten the keeper. The defence of Tyler Stafford, Josh Kitchen, Lewis Nixon and James Derry had to be alert against a pacy East Valley side who had been long time leaders of the league up until last weekend. A Liam Burley corner was headed towards goal but Nyran Wrights close range shot just evaded the goal before on the stroke of half time another corner was met by the head of Derry who could only glance the ball wide to leave the scoreline goal less at half time.

East Valley now had the slope of the pitch in their favour and it was Hall again who tested the Warriors defence with a scintillating run virtually the length of the pitch but his final touch could not beat goalkeeper Luke Cook who bravely claimed the ball at the strikers feet. Cook then made a crucial save to prevent what seemed a certain goal for the homeside. As the second half progressed Warriors got themselves back on the front foot with Wright proving a real handful for the home defence and with set pieces unsettling East Valley it seemed as if a goal would come. Another of Staffords trade mark long throws met the head of Luke Atter but again the ball just went wide of the post just before Derry seemed to have scored but his shot hit the post and a defender managed to prevent it from going over the goal line. Despite both teams committing all to claiming all three points in the final ten minutes neither side could break the deadlock and the game finished 0-0. A hard fought game played in a good spirit and a draw was perhaps a fair result leaving the title in the balance .

Hucknall Warriors u16 Reds climbed to the top of the table after a tough battle against Wollaton Hall Yellow in their last home game of the Notts Youth league season. Warriors knew that they couldn’t underestimate the opposition who had been unfortunate not to claim all three points when they met only two weeks ago. Luke Cook was the first goal keeper called into action as he made an excellent save as the ball was struck across the box however Warriors should have been in front after only ten minutes as Liam Burley netted , however the goal was disallowed for offside even though the ball had come through to him off the goal keeper. James Derry then came close from a Charlie Miller cross but his shot just flew wide of the post. With Warriors having had the best of the opening period they were rewarded with the opening goal on fifteen minutes as Burleys corner was met by the head of the towering Sam Stewart. Paice Lees on the left wing was making some telling runs and his cross to Alex Galloway almost produced a second goal. Defender Josh Kitchen then made a superb crucial intervention to prevent Wollaton levelling as they pressed forward. Like last week Warriors were working hard all over the pitch with the defensive partnership of Tyler Stafford, Lewis Nixon, Kitchen and Derry all putting in a shift to thwart the lively Wollaton attack. Warriors were rewarded with a crucial second goal on thirty five minutes as Burleys shot was saved by the goal keeper but Charlie Miller was there to slot the ball into the net from a tight angle. Despite efforts from both teams the scoreline remained 2-0 to the home team at half time.

The visitors came out fighting second half and with them now having the advantage of the slope they began to bombard the Warriors goal. Miller made a important block to keep the score line intact as the Warriors back line fought to with stand the siege with Regan Scott also making some important challenges in midfield.Wollaton came agonisingly close as two shots just went wide of the post before they were rewarded with a goal on sixty four minutes as Liam Gregory found himself unmarked with only Cook to beat but despite the goal keeper making a great save the ball rebounded back to Gregory who made no mistake. Six minutes later Warriors regained their two goal cushion as Staffords cross was met by Luke Atter at the far post who coolly drove it into the net. Stewart made an excellent tackle in the dying minutes as Wollaton battled to the end but it was Josh Kitchen who was deservedly awarded the man of the match award for some excellent and committed defending.

Again an all round team performance that sees Warriors overtake long time leaders East Valley in the table with the two due to meet next Sunday in what is likely to be the title decider.

Second placed Hucknall Warriors U16 Reds started this Notts Youth League Second division match against Netherfield Colts Blue looking to secure a vital three points to keep their title challenge on track. Previous games between these two teams have always been close and todays was no exception despite Warriors at one point being 2-0 up and apparently coasting. Warriors opened the scoring on eight minutes when James Derry’s cross field pass was collected by Regan Scott on the left who put in a pin point cross for Nyran Wright to beat the goal keeper and blast the ball into the back of the net. The first twenty minutes was all Warriors as they pressured the Netherfield goal with Scott coming close to adding a second before a Tyler Stafford long throw was tipped over, the resulting corner being punched away to safety by the keeper and from this clearance Sam Stewart must have though he had scored but again the home goalkeeper made an excellent save. The visitors were solid in defence and with Luke Atter, Scott, Stafford and Charlie Miller working tirelessly in midfield chances were being created throughout the team. Warriors did get a cushion of a second goal on thirty minutes when a Miller corner met Paice Lees whose shot was blocked but fell into the path of Liam Burley who stabbed it across the line. Lees himself then forced two saves out of the Netherfield keeper in quick succession but despite this intense pressure Warriors were made to pay for the missed opportunities as the tricky Netherfield striker waltzed through the Warriors defence in the dying seconds of the first half and took the ball past stranded keeper Luke Cook to give a half time score of 2-1 to the visitors.

In the opening minutes of the second half Netherfield were awarded a free kick just outside the area and were rewarded with the equaliser with a cracking free kick that beat both the defensive wall and goal keeper. The pressure was now on Warriors not to concede a third as Netherfield upped the ante but it was Warriors who got back in front when Burley’s corner was met in the area by Wright who added his second of the game. Netherfield’s pressure on the Warriors defence of Josh Kitchen, Lewis Nixon, Stewart and Derry was relentless but Warriors held firm, Netherfield coming closest with a powerful overhead kick that flew just past the near post. Stafford’s stinging shot tested the home keeper who could only grab hold of the ball at the second attempt before Netherfield again equalised and despite there seemingly being a foul on a Warriors player the goal was allowed to stand. Only two minutes later and Warriors were back in front as a long range Derry free kick fell to Burley, who was unmarked , and who netted his second of the game. A tense final five minutes of the game and Cook was called upon to make two crucial fingertip saves and with Derry also clearing off the line Warriors were under the cosh. Nerves were settled in the final two minutes of the game as a long ball out of defence by Miller was collected on the left wing by Wright who battled hard to beat defenders and earn his third as his shot beat the goal keeper. A great all round team performance to earn a 5-3 victory but man of the match went to hat trick hero Wright.

Hucknall Warriors U16 Reds travelled away to play Wollaton Hall Yellow in this latest Notts Youth League fixture. A game played in wet conditions on a heavy ’boggy’ pitch. Warriors dominated the early stages of the game and were unlucky not to go in front after only a few minutes when Liam Burleys pin point pass was run on to by Nyran Wright who couldn’t make the most of the golden opportunity . Minutes later Wright was on target as he forced a save out of the home keeper at the far post and Warriors even had the ball in the net as Burley forced the ball in from an acute angle but was a judged to have been offside. Midway through the first half and Wollaton were beginning to get themselves into the game and Warriors defence of Lewis Nixon, Sam Stewart, Josh Kitchen and Luke Atter were having to be alert against the threat of the pacy Wollaton front line. Charlie Millers excellent free kick hit the under side of the bar and rebounded back towards the goal line but despite some valliant efforts to force the ball over the line the scoreline remained level. Regan Scott, Tyler Stafford, Alex Galloway and Miller all contributed in midfield in a game that seemed destined to have one goal at least but that remained score less at half time

The second half belonged to Wollaton as they applied pressure to the visiting goal. Wollaton commanded midfield and despite the odd foray up the wings Warriors were restricted to very few chances to test the home keeper. As a result of this and some short passes, which weren’t helped by the muddy conditions, the ball kept being put back into the Warriors half . Warriors goal keeper Luke Cook was called upon to make several excellent saves preventing at least three certain goals which deservedly earned him the man of the match award. With fifteen minutes on the clock Wollaton celebrated prematurely as their striker beat Cook only to see his shot get stuck ,virtually on the goal line, in the mud. It took a few seconds to realise that the ball hadn’t crossed the line and James Derry was the first to reach the ball to clear it away to safety. During the last ten minutes Warriors began to create a few more chances but were not able to grab a late winner.
