YEL Sunday U13 Div 3

Unfortunately today was the poorest performance of the season by our undefeated U13 team. Despite thge performance we have remained undefeated in the league but only just.

The game started on the small pitch on the Holgate playing fields and the size of the pitch did not help the usual expansive play of the Warriors team. Beeston adapted better to the pitch and had a couple of early half chances. Warriors did get into the game but failed to create many openings or shots on gaol. After around 25 minutes it was Beeston who took the lead with a mix up in the Warriors defence the ball fell nicely to the unmarked Beeston player who hit the roof of the net from 18 yards. This should have been a wake up call for the sleepy Warriors team but it was Beeston again who came closest to scoring. Towards the end of the half Warriors did apply a bit of pressure but could not turn that into goals. HT 0-1

The teams came out in the second half and within five minutes of the restart Warriors drew level, Kieren Beales driving down the right cut inside and played a low ball towards the Beeston penalty area where the ball was turned into the Beeston goal by a Beeston player. 1-1. The next ten  minutes were all Warriors hitting the bar having shots from within the six yard box that just would not go in. Then against the run of play Beeston got into the Warriors half and after a scramble in the area Beeston scored. As the game went on Warriors had chances to equalise but could not get the ball over the line despite a goal being disallowed for nothing more than a challenge in the area.

With four minutes to go the coach decided to put Billy Platts the central defender up front, within a minute Billy set up the equaliser with a pass into the path of Ethan Barnes who slotted past the Beeston Keeper. A draw snatched from the jaw of defeat, but room for improvement all round.

Despite the performance we remain undefeated in the league and for that I congratulate the boys.

YEL Sunday Div 3 U13

Back to Young Elizabethan  league action this week in blustery conditions. The wind hampered the game today but overall Warriors dealt with the condition better than their opposition.

Ruddington played with the wind in the first half and unsurprisingly started the better, putting pressure on the Warriors goal, however it was Warriors that opened the scoring. A low drilled corner by Dylan Smith pinged around in the penalty area before falling to Sean Bird who smashed the ball home from 5 yards. It didn’t take long before Warriors doubled their lead with Ethan Barnes getting the first of his three  today, he picked the ball up half way in Ruddington’s half, he out ran his marker and slotted the ball home. it was looking comfortable for Warriors at this stage, however Ruddington got themselves back in the game direct from a corner, the ball was swung in and got caught in the wind and nestled in the far corner of the goal. Again Warriors pushed forward, then Ruddington got back on level terms, a throw in on the Ruddington left was not picked up the Ruddington player ran through unchallenged and slotted past Jacob Day in the Warriors goal.

Half time 2-2.

Warriors came out in the second half and took complete control of the game, kicking downhill with the wind at their backs, it took ten minutes before the pressure turned into a goal when Kieren Beales hit a low cross shot from the right hand side of the box that hit the back of the Ruddington goal. another five minutes passed when Barnes got his second after good work from midfield. Warriors second half keeper Edward Ridley only touching the ball a handful of times, Barnes wrapped the game up with a hat-trick goal after he lifted the ball over the Ruddington keeper, he was duly substituted after the goal and came off to a well deserved ovation.

5-2 the final score against a team that were 2nd in the league going into the game, a great victory for the boys.

YEL league cup

U13

As we went into this cup game on the coldest Sunday morning of the season so far we knew it would be a tough game Priory Celtic are one place above us in the league.

As the game kicked off it was Warriors who took the initiative, and forced Priory back into there own half however not creating a great deal from it. as the half wore on Priory started to come into the game and were creating  a bit of pressure themselves, from the pressure they scored the first goal of the game, the Priory midfielder danced past three Warriors players on the right a tackle came in but only knocked the ball back into his path and he coolly slotted the ball home. Warriors did not give up although Priory did have a couple of chances. Warriors were starting to wake up and a free kick 23 yards out gave us the equaliser when Kieren Beales hit the ball and it looped over the Priory keeper. That’s how the game stayed until half time 1-1.

In the second half Warriors came out and looked sharper than they did in the first half, Warriors second goal came from a great bit of quick thinking by Beales who took a quick free kick over the top and Ethan Barnes ran onto the ball to  slip it past the Priory keeper. Warriors were now enjoying most of the ball and got a deserved third goal when Beales again had a shot from an angle, the keeper parried the ball straight in to Barnes’s path who side footed in. 3-1 to Warriors, there was late drama when Jacob Day caught the ball but as he was about to kick he dropped the ball, the Priory player pounced on it but Jacob recovered although the striker tried to kick the ball out of his hands.

A good 3-1 win and we go marching on in the cup…

Well done Boys

Wow what a game no wonder Harry Redknapp had to go into hospital for his heart being a manager in these types of game can take it out of you.

The game kicked off and Warriors had the best of the early exchanges and took the lead after only two minutes when Ethan Barnes took the ball around the keeper and slotted in, this was after some good work by Finley Watkins. Arnold were not in the game until the 10th minute when against the run of play they took the ball down the right the Arnold player skipped past three Warriors players before putting in a telling cross, Jacob Day fumbled and the ball broke kindly to an Arnold striker who put the ball in the net from ten yards.  Warriors had possession but could not convert their chances, in fact it was Arnold who took the lead with a good piece of play and a simple tap in for their striker. It was now a test of mental strength for Warriors and the players rose to the occasion. Good work in midfield saw the ball fall for  Barnes who turned his man only to be fouled in the box. With the usual penalty taker already been substituted Owen Taylor-Parrot stepped up and put the ball in the corner of the net with a well struck penalty. Warriors had the ball in the net again before half time but the referee and linesman had deemed the Warriors striker to be in an offside position.

2-2 at half time, a quick team talk at half time put the Warriors players in a positive frame of mind, and they didn’t dissapoint within 10 minutes of the restart  Barnes coolly slipped the ball in the net after good work from Kieren Beales. The frustration in the Arnold team was clear and they again equalised with 15 minutes to go, Arnold then took the lead a couple of minutes later and Warriors were staring at their first league defeat of the season. however Corey Scothern equalised after a corner was not cleared by Arnold and a cheeky chip into the roof of the net got Warriors back on level terms.

In the last five minutes Warriors had all the pressure and should have had a penalty when Barnes was clattered by the Arnold keeper with the ball heading wide, it wasn’t given and that’s football for you.

The game ended 4-4 and a great match for the neutral, well done Warriors proud of all of you great performance and still UNBEATEN… and we would like to also congratulate Arnold on two fantastic games of football the last two weeks.

Hucknall Warriors under 13s first defeat of the season came at the hands of the current  league leaders Arnold Town, luckily this defeat was in the Nottinghamshire FA Shield  and didn’t affect the league standings. As the game kicked off  Warriors  could sense it was going to be a close game, both sides cancelling each other out, both defenses were standing strong against the forward lines. It was Arnold who created the first shooting opportunity, going down their right side crossing the ball but the striker couldn’t get a solid enough touch at the back post! It was time for Warriors to strike back and we had three to four shots in the next 10 minutes of the game unfortunately not troubling the Arnold keeper too much.

The only goal of the game came after 25 minutes, again they ran down their right a great cross into the centre and the Arnold striker volleyed into the roof of the net.

As the second half started Warriors were on the front foot and were having most of the game, Ethan Barnes going close, Kieren Beales stinging the keepers hands with a couple of shots, then Warriors thought they’d scored when Finlay Watkins hit a shot from the six yard box that nestled in the back of the net, however the referee said it had gone through a hole in the side netting and gave a goal kick. Into the last five minutes and Warriors went with four  up front to try and rescue the game, this nearly paid off when from a corner Sean Bird ran to the front post and volleyed the corner unfortunately hitting the post and the ball rolled straight into the keepers arms. In the last minute of the game another corner to Warriors this time the coach shouted everybody including the keeper to attack the corner,  Barnes got the touch but as the ball went towards the sideline the referee blew for full time.

So a 1-0 loss but a very good game of football and great effort by the Warriors players..

Bestwood Park Blue 1 Hucknall Warriors 1

Goal scorers: Ethan Barnes
Match type: League
Man of the match: Dylan Smith

YEL Sunday U13

A fiercely contested game resulted in a draw and a point for each side. The pitch was hard and bobbly and not conducive of the type of football Warriors like to play.

As the game started it was Warriors on the front foot and doing the pressing but despite the pressure they  didn’t create many shooting opportunities. After 10 minutes Warriors could have had a penalty when Ethan Barnes went into the box  was barged and had his shirt pulled but the referee didn’t see it that way. Warriors were starting to take control and were now having a few shots on goal, Kieren Beales going closest to opening the scoring with a couple of efforts from the edge of the area but 0-0 at the break.

The second half started disastrously, a freekick was awarded to the home side ten yards in the Warriors half. it was hit into the box and Edward Ridley didn’t read the bounce of the ball and the ball spilled out of his hands and the Bestwood striker tapped in from three yards, which was Bestwoods second shot all game.

Warriors had to weather a five minute spell of pressure from Bestwood and did it well, the back four of Corey Scothern, Billy Platts, Ethan Jacques and Lewis Phillips kept Bestwood from extending their lead, then as we got into the last ten minutes  the score was levelled .  Dylan Smith swung in a corner following a break in play and Ethan Barnes scored to equalise and give Warriors hope of a late victory.

Warriors nearly snatched a late winner when Kieren Beales hit a free kick against the bar.

A hard fought draw with 5 players missing, well done boys
