Hucknall Warriors 4 Radcliffe Olympic 0

Goal scorers: Beales x 2, Diriso, Jacques
Match type: League
Man of the match: Kieren Beales
Match Location: Home

YEL U13 Sunday division 3

Last game of the season for the boys, and a very wet one too!

Warriors started very strongly, and were on the front foot from the kick off a couple of shots from distance went wide of the target, a run from Oliver Straw earned Warriors a corner, as the corner swung in it fell to Sean Bird who knocked the ball backwards into the path of Ethan Jacques who drilled in from 18 yards. The second was not long coming, a ball out of defence saw Dante Diriso race through and slot in to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes, Radcliffe upped their tempo and had a good ten minute spell but without troubling Jacob Day in the Warriors goal. Warriors got their third before half time when Kieren Beales rounded the keeper to slot in to the net.

Kicking uphill in the 2nd half and with the  driving rain against them Warriors didnt quite play with the same fluidity of the first half, Radcliffe increased their possession but failed to test Warriors keeper (2nd half keeper) Edward Ridley. Warriors changed some of the positions around of the players with Sean Bird and Corey Scothern taking up centre half positions in replace of Billy Platts and Ethan Jacques, the final goal came after a fantastic finish from Beales from the right wing position.

In all a good team/squad performance like it has been most of the season.

A great first season, one defeat in the league, semi final of the trophy, now its a waiting game to see if we become champions after Arnold Town finish their season, either way a fantastic effort from every body associated with the Under 13′s this season……

East Leake Bantams 3 Hucknall Warriors 1

Goal scorers: Barnes
Match type: Cup
Man of the match: Sean Bird
Match Location: Away

YEL Sunday Trophy Semi Final

As the game kicked off East Leake went straight on the front foot, with pressure coming almost immediately, despite the pressure from a team fourth in league above the Warriors defenders coped and restricted the amount of shots East Leake had. In fact after fifteen minutes it was Warriors who went ahead, against the run of play the ball was played to Barnes who used his pace to get behind the East Leake defence and finish a great shot into the far corner. East Leake continued to push forward and ten minutes later got an equaliser from a near post corner that was smartly turned in by the striker, East Leake then hit the bar with Edward Ridley stranded, again Warriors broke and a brave challenge from the East Leake keeper brought down Barnes and Warriors were awarded a penalty. Sean Bird stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, unfortunately the keeper managed to get his foot to the ball and deflect it over the bar, the 7th penalty miss of the campaign!

Half time 1-1 a great performance and effort from the boys.

As the second half started East Leake kept possession of the ball and made it very difficult for Warriors after hitting the woodwork twice more they got in front for the first time, a shot from an angle just inside the left penalty area left Jacob Day no chance, it was a deserved lead for East Leake. Kieren Beales had a couple of shots from distance as did Corey Scothern but in the last 20 seconds of the game East Leake made it 3-1 with a free kick from 25 yards that rolled down the back of the net.

A great cup run to reach the Semi’s in our first season is a great achievement but on the day the best team won. This now gives us an insight on where we need to strengthen the team for next year.

Well done to ALL the players on reaching this far.

Hucknall Warriors 4 Bestwood Park Rangers 3

Goal scorers: Barnes x 2 Beales, Watkins
Match type: League
Man of the match: Owen Taylor Parrott
Match Location: Home

A horrible wet night in Hucknall couldn’t dampen the Warriors enthusiasm as they beat 2nd in the league Bestwood

As the game started Bestwood were straight on the attack, all of the pressure was on the Warriors goal, a few balls through the Warriors defence straight to the keeper due to the slippery surface. Bestwood took the lead again a ball straight down the middle was missed by both Warriors central defenders and the Bestwood striker slotted in from the edge of the area. Warriors still didn’t wake up and found themselves two down five minutes later, another ball through and left Jacob Day in the Warriors goal no chance. Bestwood continued to press but Warriors started to get a foothold in the game and halved the deficit when Barnes ran clear and finished over the keeper with the outside of his boot. Bestwood were still having chances but now from distance and missing the target, the final twist in the first half was Warriors were awarded a penalty, this time it fell to Kieren Beales who walked up and blazed wide, our sixth penalty miss of the season!!!!

After words of encouragement at half time Warriors penned Bestwood back, and it didnt take them long to draw level, a shot on goal after a mazy run by Beales was saved but  put into the path of Finley Watkins who tapped in. Warriors with their tails up took the lead a ball into the box saw Barnes twist and hit in from eight Yards, Warriors were having most of the game but had to wait another ten minutes before getting their fourth,  a free kick from 25 yards, Beales drilled it low and hard into the corner, 4-2 to Warriors. The game was being broken up by the whistle being blown and as the game went into the last minute Bestwood got a consolation, the Warriors defence backed off and the Bestwood player hit the ball which was deflected and spun into the top corner.

Apart from the first 20 minutes an EXCELLENT TEAM performance….

Well done boys it now up to Arnold to catch us with their games in hand.

Hucknall Warriors 2 Bilborough Pelican 3

Goal scorers: Bird, Diriso
Match type: League
Man of the match: Corey Scothern
Match Location: Home

Our first league defeat of the season came at the hands of Pelican, a club I used to play for (adults not kids football)

Warriors started brightly, but were wasteful with their passing and finishing, despite this Warriors took the lead a ball through to Barnes and he struck the post the ball rebounded and from a tight angle Sean Bird squeezed the ball over the line, Warriors had the better of possession and could/should have extended their lead on several occasions, however they did extend their lead when Dante Diriso raced clear and hit his shot just under the bar 2-0. Warriors could have gone further in front when a penalty was awarded after Barnes was fouled in the area, Jacques stepped up but unfortunately hit at the keeper and was unable to reach the rebound.

Half time 2-0 and despite some lax play Warriors deserved to be in the lead.

The second half started and Pelican were on the front foot after a period of pressure they pulled a goal back, a ball through to their striker who looked offside hit across goal but the ball caught Edward Ridley out at the near post and the ball squeezed in. Pelican then drew level after a shot from distance was only parried and fell just right for the Pelican striker to hit in despite the desperate lunges of two Warriors defenders. Pelican then got the final goal of the game when a high cross was fumbled and again fell wrongly for Warriors and the Pelican striker tapped in to make it 3-2 to Pelican, a mad ten  minute spell won the game for Pelican.

Warriors turned up the pressure but it was too late, another penalty miss (5th this season) this time by Billy Platts meant Warriors finished on the losing side for the first time in the league this season.

A first defeat in mid April is something to be proud of and the boys certainly should be especially in their first season as a team. Well done boys lets use this feeling to inspire us in our last 3(4) games….

St Annes Blues 1 – 5 Hucknall Warriors

Goal scorers: Barnes x 2, Beales, Diriso, Bird
Match type: League
Man of the match: Oliver Straw
Match Location: Away

A tricky game was overcome in emphatic fashion eventually, this was a potential banana skin after a 6 all draw earlier this year.

As the game started St Annes made all the early running, and were given too much time on the ball and space to run into. It was St Annes with the first opportunity of the match  coming when a long ball forward saw the St Annes striker go one on one with Edward Ridley in the Warriors goal and a fine save meant the outcome was a corner to St Annes. it was only after the first twenty minutes had elapsed when Warriors started finding their feet, a cross field pass found its way to Ethan Barnes at the far edge of the area but unfortunately Barnes took a touch and was closed down when a first time shot looked like the better option. The Warriors defence was getting on to of the St Annes forwards by now and some excellent defending from Billy Platts and Corey Scothern in the middle meant St Annes threat was disappearing.

It was Warriors who took the lead when Owen Taylor-Parrott threaded a neat ball through to Barnes who composed himself well and slotted past the St Annes Keeper. Oliver Straw at left back was also starting to get on top of his opponent with some strong tackles, however this didnt stop St Annnes getting an equaliser as the ball squirmed free and was hit into the net from six yards out. This re-ignited the Warriors flame and another Barnes goal soon followed, Dante Diriso hit a fine effort into the near post after an great pass from Finley Watkins. Sean Bird finished the first half scoring when Billy Platts cross field pass found him on the right of the penalty area he composed himself and slotted into the far corner.

As the second half started Tyler Johnstone and Ethan Jacques were running the centre of midfield for Warriors, tackles coming in from Lewis Phillips at right back left St Annes scratching their heads on how to break down the determined Warriors team. The second half was comfortable for Warriors and they cruised through the fifth goal a spectacular free kick from Kieren Beales from 25 yards out hit the under side of the bar and into the net to complete the scoring.

St Annes were a physical side which will help the players prepare for next Thursdays potential title decider against Bestwood at Holgate School.

Radcliffe Olympic1 Hucknall Warriors 4

Goal scorers: Bird, Beales, Barnes x 2
Match type: League
Man of the match: Sean Bird
Match Location: Away

Although the weather put some doubt on if the game would go ahead, the pitch was in perfect playing condition.

Radcliffe were second bottom in the table before the start of the game, but they were the ones that started brighter, having a few attacks at Warriors without getting a telling shot on goal,Warriors eased their way into the game but their performance was a little lacklustre, and after twenty minutes Radcliffe took the lead, The midfielder went past four Warriors players too easily before squaring the ball for the Radcliffe striker to knock past Edward Ridley in the Warriors goal. Warriors surprised at being behind had a couple of attacks before the break with the best chance falling to Ethan Barnes who went one on one with the Radcliffe keeper who pulled off a stunning save. 1-0 to Radcliffe at half time.

The second half Warriors woke up and was mainly camped in the Radcliffe half but didnt create too many clear cut chances, Warriors first goal came from a free kick that was swung in by Kieren Beales which deflected of a Radcliffe defender falling to Sean Bird in the box, Sean composed himself before slotting into the corner. Warriors second goal wasn’t long in coming, this time a quck throw in from Bird to Beales who hit a brilliant left foot shot into the roof of the net from twenty yards.

Radcliffe again had some pressure but Warriors were holding out and with five minutes to go Barnes cut in from the left and hit a low shot into the net, Barnes completed the scoring two minutes later when he outpaced the Radcliffe defence to slot in.

A hard fought victory that puts us 9 points clear at the top of the table, with both Arnold and Bestwood having games in hand we have the points on the board.

Some tricky games coming up but hopefully we can keep our nerve.

Well done boys (eventually) on another great result
