Wilford Lions U12′s 6 v Hucknall Warriors U12′s 0

Rusty Warriors were brought back down to earth with a bump as Wilford Lions hit them for six at a very blustery Victoria Embankment. The Warriors were playing their first game for 7 weeks and it showed as they failed to get to terms in the conditions. Wilford bossed the first half as the locals mostly chased shadows and scored three goals but after the break they at last got going and were unfortunate not to close the deficit, new signing Ellis Platt, Kane Pickard and Austin Baker all had efforts saved but Wilford made the Warriors pay with three more goals to seal the victory including a very harsh penalty and a wonder wind assisted strike. Dylan Key was again outstanding in the Warriors goal as he kept the Wilford strikers at bay.

Hucknall Warriors U12′s 3 v Sandiacre Town Bhoys 1

Goal scorers: Joe Perry (2), kane pickard.
Match type: League
Man of the match:
Match Location: Home

A truly fantastic performance from the Warriors which was full of commitment, energy and most of all teamwork, produced the shock result of the season so far in the Young Elizabethan U12 Sunday Division 3. Bottom placed Warriors who had lost all eight games so far this season played host to third placed Sandiacre Town Bhoys who had lost only once  but they didnt anticipate that the Warriors would put in a performance that left managers Julian Toop and Andy Stephenson beaming with pride.

The locals started brightly packing the midfield and denying Sandiacre any room to play in but it was the visitors who took the lead as the Warriors failed to clear their lines against a strong wind.

The locals then lost inspirational skipper Lewis Toop when he tweaked a hamstring but the Warriors new found self belief drawing  a great response, Sam Butler and Joe Perry drove forward from midfield creating chances and it was Perry who fired home an equaliser from 20 yards after swapping passes with John Joe Martin. Kane Pickard then saw his shot roll just wide of the post after Austin Baker had broke down the left.

The Warriors were having to defend well against a strong wind, Jacob Rowland who sat infront of the Warriors central defenders was having his best game of the season and full backs Darren Pykett and Austin Baker remained focussed on their defensive work giving the Warriors a solid platform to attack and it was Joe Perry who put the Warriors in front with another super strike from 25 yards this time as his effort looped over the keeper.

With the Warriors leading at the break for the first time this season it was important that they remained focussed as Sandiacre threw everything at them in the first ten miutes of the second half, but central defenders Mark Ramsden and Kyle Cork were superb and Dylan Key in goal commanded his area admirably.

The longer the game went on the more locals could sense an upset and they started to create more chances, Austin Baker drove down the left twice and saw his efforts just go wide and Kane Pickard again hit the target but his shot was saved.

With just five minutes left though the Warriors were in dreamland as a long clearance from keeper Dylan key put Pickard through on goal and the classy striker made no mistake firing past the keeper and putting the locals two goals ahead.

It was no more than they deserved as they outfought Sandiacre in all departments and their hard work was highlighted by Sandiacres manager who commented after the game that the Warriors fully deserved their victory.

Riverside Boys 3 Hucknall Warriors 1

Goal scorers: Kane Pickard
Match type: League
Man of the match:
Match Location: Away

Warriors U12′s latest Young Elizabethan Sunday Division 3 fixture pitted them against Riverside Boys of Long Eaton. Both sides were starting the game pointless so something had to give and it was a poor first half performance that gave the locals a mountain to climb but they showed great character to claw their way back into the game but just fell short coming going down 3-1.

Playing on a small pitch and grass that in places was six inches long the Warriors struggled to to cope with the surface as the Riverside front two caused the Warriors defence all sorts of problems. Goalkeeper Dylan Key was in inspired form though and the homeside had to wait until the 15th minute before opening the scoring after the warriors midfield didn’t track back with their players and then a second goal came with the defenders caught square and the Riverside striker lobbed the keeper.

A few motivational words were said at half time by manager Julian Toop as he asked for more commitment and desire to win and his players responded peppering the home goal. Kane Pickard, Sam Butler and Austin Baker all had chances to reduce the deficit and with John-Joe Martin and Joe Perry bossing the middle of the park the next goal was going to be all important, unfortunatley a rare second half break away increased their Riversides lead but Kane Pickard reduced the deficit with a well taken goal, before seeing another shot hit the side netting. Austin Bakers audacious effort from 25 yards hit the top of the bar but the locals couldn’t get another goal as Riverside were holding on at the end.

Hucknall Warriors 1 v Wilford Lions 5

Goal scorers: Kane Pickard
Match type: League
Man of the match:
Match Location: Home

Another gutsy performance by Hucknall  Warriors under 12 Reds,  yet again yielded no points,  in this Young Elizabethan third division game against Wilford Lions but the performance should fill them with some self confidence to go on and gain their first points of the season.

Dylan Key was again outstanding in goal producing a man of the match performance in the first half as the Warriors defending against a strong wind were put under alot of pressure. The back three of Lewis Toop, Mark Ramsden and Kyle Cork were all defending well but it was the unfortunate boot of Toop who gave Wilford the lead when a great cross between him and keeper Key ended with Toop getting a foot to the ball before the defender but only managed to send the ball past his own keper. Kane Pickard almost equalised when put through from a delightful George Seddon through ball but his shot drifted agonisingly wide.

With the wind behind their backs for the second half the Warriors tried to put some pressure on the Wilford backline and they got their reward when  Pickard battled well to win the ball before confidently firing past the keeper. The Warriors felt a shock could be on but Wilford upped their game as they scored straight from the restart and despite a really good team performance Wilford scored three more to give the scoreline a flattering look.

Stapleford Villa 9 v Hucknall Warriors 3

Goal scorers: Austin Baker (2), Kane Pickard.
Match type: League
Man of the match:
Match Location: Home

A disappointing first half performance in which  Hucknall Warriors under 12 Red gave themselves too much work to do after the break  which ended any hopes of them gaining their first points of the season in the Young Elizabethan League  Third division .

The locals started off very sluggishly and never got to terms with facing a strong wind and Staplford were two goals up inside 10 minutes, Austin Baker then gave the Warriors some hope when his cross cum shot was adjudged to have crossed the line by the home linesman but the home side added four more goals before the break to go into halftime 6-1 infront.

After changing things around at half time the Warriors started to create some chances and Joshua Clayton couldn’t hit the target when 12 yards out and the Warriors were hit on the break to go 7-1 down.

Austin Baker and Kane Pickard then combined well on the right as Pickard finished cooley past the home keeper and then Baker got his second of the game when beating three men and slotting under the keeper.

It was a much better effort from the Warriors but more slack marking enabled Stapleford to score two more late goals and Pickard also had a brilliant lob ruled out for offside even though he headed the ball on himself.

Hucknall Warriors U12′s 1 v Keyworth United U12′s 6

Goal scorers: Austin Baker
Match type: League
Man of the match:
Match Location: Home

One of the best performances the Warriors under 12s have given since they began playing 11 a side resulted in a 6-1 loss  in this Young Elizabethan division three game but Keyworth were far from superior and needed five goals in the last ten minutes to secure victory.

Keyworth who beat Wollaton 10-0 last week thought they could just turn up and roll over the Warriors who lost 16-1 to league favourites Clifton last week but mangers Julian Toop and Andy Stephenson got their troops motivated and believing in their ability and they matched their opponents all over the park with a determined performance that flattered their visitors.

Dylan Key took over from Kimball Humpries in goal and was superb, quickly coming off his line and kicking well. The back three of Kyle Cork, Mark Ramsden and Lewis Toop were disciplined keeping their shape well and with Austin Baker and Darren Pykett playing as wing backs the hosts were proving a hard nut to crack. It wasn’t until the 15th minute that Keyworth took the lead with a good finish but the Warriors hit back almost immediately when Austin Baker struck from 30 yards out with a half volley that bounced over the keeper and into the goal. Josh Clayton then just shot wide after great work from Sam Butler and Kane Pickard on the right and the locals should have taken the lead in the last minute of the half but Darren Pykett hit the bar when just two yards out as he stretched to get a foot on the ball.

It was a half that the Warriors could be proud of with Jacob Rowland working his socks off in the middle of the park.

With the locals sniffing an upset they continued to frustrate Keyworth with their workrate and defending, new signing Daniel Betteridge got another 30 minutes of football in and  Humphries made a rare apperance in midfield but it was Keyworth got got the all important next goal and this seemed to deflate the Warriors who conceeded four more goals in the last 10 minutes to give the scoreline a slightly unjust look.

All in all the boys can hold their heads high as they did almost everything that was asked of them and if they go into next weekends game with the same spirit and determination then they could get their first points of the season on the board.
