Warriors Under 9 3 v 0 Holy Spirit Celtic

Goal scorers: Joe Gillan, Jude Preece, Jack Bradley
Match type: Cup
Man of the match: Connor Smith
Match Location: Home

This was another solid performance from warriors in a Saturday cup game that saw them up against a good sat Div 2 side.

The Warriors got off to a steady start but couldn’t get the passing game going that they have been showing of late. Chances came and went and it seemed this cup match was going to be anything but easy when warriors got into gear, man of the match Connor Smith hit a great shot that the keeper seemed to have pushed to safety but Joe Gillan followed up with a great shot that flew passed the keepers right and into the top corner of the net. That settled the nerves and soon the team was in full control, the only worry being when keeper David Hurry carried the ball into his own net to retrieve a ball from the game on the next pitch, but to the amusement of all around, the ref used common sense and the game continued.

Great work at the back saw Jude Preece and Regan Evans partnership as strong as ever, snuffing out any half chances Celtic put together.

Owen Burke was as tricky as ever turning defenders inside out and was unlucky not to be on the score sheet.

Jack Bradley was all over his opposite number by now but somehow couldn’t get the ball over the line.

The second half battling eventually paid off when a series of shots fell outside the box to Jude Preece who hit the ball from fully 20 yards over the fingertips of the keeper.

Curtis Rigley continued to battle for every ball as did George Blatherwick who after a knock to the leg had to withdraw.

Not long after, Jack Bradleys hard work finally paid off when a great shot from Curtis Rigley came out to jack who this time made no mistake with the finish.

Final score 3-0 to warriors and a well deserved victory seeing them through to a semi final clash with either West Bridgeford Trojans or Carlton Town Blues.

Hucknall Warriors 7 – Carlton Town 1

Goal scorers: Joe Gillan (4), Jack Bradley, Curtis Rigley (2)
Match type: League
Man of the match: Joe Gillan
Match Location: Home

Hucknall Warriors  under 9s faced a tough match today in this Young Elizabethan division one game against Carlton Town who beat them last time out.But Warriors were switched on from the start today and soon got in amongst Carlton which paid off early when a great shot by Jack Bradley hit the post,  but he was alert enough to follow up and tap in the rebound. The next goal came from Joe Gillan when a good though ball from Connor smith sent  Bradley in and again he hit the post where Gillan gladly took the tap in. Carlton kept pressing but the always reliable Jude Preece and Regan Evans let nothing past!  Even when Jude took a ball to the face that bust his nose he soon got cleaned up and got on with it. The next goal came from new signing Curtis Rigley who wasted no time when the ball came from midfield and he let rip with a peach of a shot that flew past the keeper. Fine tackling from Connor Smith,Josh Flowers & George Blatherwick kept a firm grip on the game to take a 3-0 lead to half time.

The second half saw David Hurry kept busy as Carlton fought to come back into the game and when they got a goal early on Warriors had to show there resolve. Rigley calmed the nerves with another bullet to make it 4-1. Good pressure from Warriors led to a throw in which captain  Preece took and threw to Gillan who headed the ball in off a Carlton player for the fifth. Owen Burke kept busy as ever with tricks and turns and came close on a couple of occasions as did Flowers in his best game to date.
The sixth goal came from Gillan as he turned in the box to hit a shot off the underside of the crossbar and over the goal line. Warriors saved the best move and goal of the game till last when terrific passing out of defence came to  Flowers who played a great ball down the left wing for  Bradley to run on to and provide a pinpoint cross into the box that man of the match Gillan met at the near post to volley past the keeper from close range. Warriors efforts & hard work were rewarded today and the result has seen them start climbing the table with games in hand.
