This was another solid performance from warriors in a Saturday cup game that saw them up against a good sat Div 2 side.
The Warriors got off to a steady start but couldn’t get the passing game going that they have been showing of late. Chances came and went and it seemed this cup match was going to be anything but easy when warriors got into gear, man of the match Connor Smith hit a great shot that the keeper seemed to have pushed to safety but Joe Gillan followed up with a great shot that flew passed the keepers right and into the top corner of the net. That settled the nerves and soon the team was in full control, the only worry being when keeper David Hurry carried the ball into his own net to retrieve a ball from the game on the next pitch, but to the amusement of all around, the ref used common sense and the game continued.
Great work at the back saw Jude Preece and Regan Evans partnership as strong as ever, snuffing out any half chances Celtic put together.
Owen Burke was as tricky as ever turning defenders inside out and was unlucky not to be on the score sheet.
Jack Bradley was all over his opposite number by now but somehow couldn’t get the ball over the line.
The second half battling eventually paid off when a series of shots fell outside the box to Jude Preece who hit the ball from fully 20 yards over the fingertips of the keeper.
Curtis Rigley continued to battle for every ball as did George Blatherwick who after a knock to the leg had to withdraw.
Not long after, Jack Bradleys hard work finally paid off when a great shot from Curtis Rigley came out to jack who this time made no mistake with the finish.
Final score 3-0 to warriors and a well deserved victory seeing them through to a semi final clash with either West Bridgeford Trojans or Carlton Town Blues.
