Hucknall Warriors travelled to high scoring West Bridgford Pumas in this Notts Youth League under 15′s division 2 match. Warriors started off strongly and could have been on the score sheet early in the game when Sam Stewart’s well directed header was tipped over the bar by the home keeper. Nyran Wright put the visitors in the lead when he lobbed the keeper from outside the box, however the advantage was short lived as a Pumas player was on hand to nod the ball into the net at the far post after a well taken corner. The home team then grabbed a second with a carbon copy of their first goal , following a fantastic save by Warriors goalkeeper Luke Cook however the visitors deservedly got themselves back into the game when Regan Scotts shot was misjudged by the goalkeeper and it cruelly went through his legs to take Warriors into the interval level at 2-2.
A pulsating second half saw Tom Hall come close when he struck the bar and Warriors had more chances to take a slender lead before once again a Pumas player took advantage of some lax marking and his free header gave keeper Cook no chance. In a see-saw game Warriors were awarded a free kick from outside the box and Jack Hutchby made no mistake in the 47th minute as he powerfully drove the ball into the back of the net. Although Hucknall continued to press forward in numbers throughout the remainder of a frenetic second half they were unable to break the deadlock to secure a winning goal against a home side who broke with speed and pace. Andreas Kokkinou stuck like glue to the Pumas number 9 who before the game was the divisions leading striker and man of the match Luke Cook thwarted West Bridgford with several fantastic saves and was commanding between the sticks. A gritty performance by the whole team who worked tirelessly through out the game to earn a well deserved point.
