YEL Sunday Division 3 U13′s

After three weeks with no game the anticipation for the game was high amongst the supporters and parents, however that anticipation didn’t seem to rub off on the players, in a lethargic lack lustre performance but three points still headed back to the unbeaten Warriors side.

As the game kicked off in perfect conditions with no wind and a soft but even pitch, it was Wilford Lions that created the first chance after only three  minutes, the Lions No 2 ran through the midfield unchallenged  however the shot was straight at Edward Ridley in the Warriors net. Warriors failed to keep possession of the ball and resorted into kicking it long, it was a long ball through that put Ethan Barnes through and he slotted coolly home from 12 yards with less than 10 minutes on the clock. Warriors still didnt seem to wake up, however the second goal came as Barnes was again put through and he came out stronger in a challenge with the Lions keeper, the ball bounced kindly and he slotted home from four yards to make it 2-0.  It was Lions that still had more of the ball but could not turn the possession into goalscoring chances. Warriors attacked down the left through Oliver Straw and won a corner, as the ball came in Lions failed to clear and the ball dropped for Billy Platts to poke in, the first half scoring did not finish there, a long clearance from Ridley was flicked on by Sean Bird, the innocent flick on squirmed under the lions keeper and Warriors had a 4-0 half time lead.

As the second half started, it was Wilford who continued to dominate the ball, this time they did convert their chances, their first was a well taken goal from the right corner of the box, they could have scored two more soon after but for the heroics of Jacob Day the second half Warriors keeper who pulled off two world class saves in the space of 5 minutes. Lions did get a second that was slid in from the edge of the box, it was nervy times for a while but as the game entered the final 10 minutes Kieran Beales calmed any nerves with a fine shot from 20 yards that went in the far corner, Barnes completed another hat trick when he raced through with five minutes to go to finish the scoring and give Warriors a flattering scoreline of 6-2.

A win in the first game back hopefully the football will start to flow again from next week.
