YEL Sunday U13 Div 3
Unfortunately today was the poorest performance of the season by our undefeated U13 team. Despite thge performance we have remained undefeated in the league but only just.
The game started on the small pitch on the Holgate playing fields and the size of the pitch did not help the usual expansive play of the Warriors team. Beeston adapted better to the pitch and had a couple of early half chances. Warriors did get into the game but failed to create many openings or shots on gaol. After around 25 minutes it was Beeston who took the lead with a mix up in the Warriors defence the ball fell nicely to the unmarked Beeston player who hit the roof of the net from 18 yards. This should have been a wake up call for the sleepy Warriors team but it was Beeston again who came closest to scoring. Towards the end of the half Warriors did apply a bit of pressure but could not turn that into goals. HT 0-1
The teams came out in the second half and within five minutes of the restart Warriors drew level, Kieren Beales driving down the right cut inside and played a low ball towards the Beeston penalty area where the ball was turned into the Beeston goal by a Beeston player. 1-1. The next ten minutes were all Warriors hitting the bar having shots from within the six yard box that just would not go in. Then against the run of play Beeston got into the Warriors half and after a scramble in the area Beeston scored. As the game went on Warriors had chances to equalise but could not get the ball over the line despite a goal being disallowed for nothing more than a challenge in the area.
With four minutes to go the coach decided to put Billy Platts the central defender up front, within a minute Billy set up the equaliser with a pass into the path of Ethan Barnes who slotted past the Beeston Keeper. A draw snatched from the jaw of defeat, but room for improvement all round.
Despite the performance we remain undefeated in the league and for that I congratulate the boys.
