A very disappointing performance against Chad Mansfield Youth League U14 division 2 leaders Shirebrook Rangers was rolled out from an under par Warriors as they attempted to consolidate their position in the league. Warriors started well enough and matched the visitors as both teams struggled to take command of the game. Once again as in previous weeks it was Warriors that conceded first when a lack of communication in the defence led to a simple finish for the visitors forward who thanked santa for the early present. With Warriors in a benevolent mood Shirebrook made it two, time and space were allowed for the visitors midfielder to pick his spot and fire past keeper Jack Grainger after not being closed down outside of the box. Warriors did have a golden chance to get back into the game after unlucky striker Ben Clurow couldn’t get a full strike on the ball after being put through from a pass by Joe Gill. At least it was a little more encouraging for the Warriors and it did look like they would get back into the game as efforts from Charlie Miller and the hard working Regan Scott went close.
No reward for coming close though and once again Warriors lack of dealing with a defensive situation cost them as a penalty was awarded to the visitors which was dispatched past the Warriors keeper to make it three to the visitors before half time.
Second half started with Warriors looking a little more motivated and wanting to compete to get back into the game and this they did as Miller unleashed a long range shot that flew into the net for a lifeline for the homeside. With Man of the Match Matt Brierley leading the charge for the Warriors the next goal was vital for both sides but once again it was Warriors that succumbed to a fourth, a really good strike from the Shirebrook player to take the game out of reach for the Warriors. The visitors made it five as all was lost for the Warriors who got caught on the break pushing forward to restore a little bit of pride.
More commitment, passion and desire is required from the lack luster Warriors in the next match after this disappointing performance.
